Preservation, Conservation, Restoration: Techniques for Working with Historical Textiles

This historical textiles workshop is quite a distance from Media (1-1/2 to 2 hours each way), but at least one of our members is planning to attend and will offer a ride to interested parties. Led by conservation sewing experts at the Sigal Museum in Easton, the workshop includes demonstrations and hands-on practice of specific techniques. Specialty items and fabric packets will be provided for practice. Please bring your own sewing kit.

  • 9:00-9:30 – Registration and coffee
  • 9:30-10:00 – Introduction
  • 10:00-11:00 – Conservation sewing demonstration and hands-on practice
  • 11:00-11:45 – Packing and cleaning textiles
  • 11:45 – 1:00 Lunch (on your own)
  • 1:00-2:00 – Conservation sewing demonstration and hands-on practice
  • 2:00-2:15 – Break
  • 2:15 – 3:30 – Dying supplies and sewing session
  • 3:30-4:00 – Q&A
