The Media Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization. Consider becoming part of the team that brings Media’s history to life. There are many ways to contribute.

We have two specific roles open: Director of Children’s Activities and Director of Historic Gardens. Please see the job descriptions below and send your application to info@mediahistoricalsociety.org.

Title: Director of Children’s Activities

Responsibilities: The Director of Children’s Activities will be responsible for

  • planning and leading children’s activities at MHS family-focused events;
  • creating self-directed activities for children for MHS’ public exhibits and events that are not specifically family focused;
  • ensuring that activities are engaging and offer appropriate educational and historical components for the children;
  • evaluating success of the activities and adapting accordingly.

Qualifications: Experience working with children of all ages. Interest in history and education. Certificate of appropriate background checks for working with children.

Reports to: Executive Committee

Title: Director of Historic Gardens

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing a comprehensive garden plan for the Minshall House that has seasonal interest and is easy to maintain, using native plants and other plants of specific historical interest. The design will enhance the use of the property by visitors. The plan will include areas that may be used for seasonal or ephemeral gardens that relate to the themes of specific MHS programs and events;
  • Creating themed gardens as required;
  • Coordinating and overseeing volunteers to create and maintain the gardens;
  • Budgeting costs for creation and maintenance of the gardens.

Qualifications: Knowledge of plants native to Southeastern Pennsylvania and plants of local historical interest. Experience in garden design and landscaping. Ability to predict peak bloom times.
